HSR Daytona Continental Historics Nov 7-9

Friday November 5th 5:30 in the morning we were loaded and off to Daytona for the HSR IMSA GTP Reunion. The lildebbieracing 924GT runin class 3k and the Vintage Enduro.

We  arrive at the track around 7:00 am get all set up and ready for tech. I took the car to tech and it passes all but 1 thing... Coolant???? What Coolant? I have never had coolant in the car; evidently when the car was serviced, they topped of the water and water wetter, with coolant!!!! So now I need to go back to the garage and drain the system; anyone that has done this on a 944 knows what I'm talking about... simple but a pain in the but...
The Safety Clean guy at the track let me borrow a container to drain into, so  I can  dispose of it properly ( since I'm  in close proximity of them, hehehehe).
We start putting water back in, bleed the system, 45 minutes later we are teched and ready to go!!!
The first session was a get comfortable, keep an eye on the temperature and oil pressures  run ... it was perfect... 2:26 lap times and no problems.

The second session Tom takes the car out and turns a 2:23:498 ;  3 seconds faster and still no problems... WE ARE READY!!!!

Saturday it is a cool 54 degrees, 8:30 in the morning, I'm sitting on the grid getting ready for qualifying session #1; there are 39 cars with me on the grid..
(The video will be up shortly on the webpage... )
I get the Porsche to run for 30 minutes without any issues and an even better qualifying time of 2:23:926, P 32 out of 39...
The second qualifier in at 11:00 am and 25 degrees warmer, we run a time of 2:25.626 but moved up one spot to P 31 for the enduro!!!!

After a long wait, watching and socializing ( Thank You HealthLink /RaceLink, Bill Riddell for the best food we have ever had at any track!!!), 3:45 Tom is loaded and on the grid for the 1 hour enduro. We have a great start -  Tom moves up a few spots and gets into a great battle with Tim Lewis and his 914-6 and John Winter and his 356- 1600 for over 30 minutes. Tom finally gets both of them in the bus stop and comes into the pits...My turn - we have a great pit stop, with help from Don Heath, put 5 gallons of fuel in the car, fire it up and off I go... 5:02 in the pits... perfect....
I start making some smooth laps with no others cars to be found ( pit stops mess everything up); at the end we had 24 great laps of Daytona International Speedway and a 16 overall finish with a best time of 2:24.246... A great job by all...

Sunday Morning, again 5:30 am on my way to the track, get set up  to warm up the car for an 8:30 feature race; another 30 minutes of pure fun.. ( darnn-  forgot the camera) I had a great battle with Al Ferguson and his 1962 Jaguar XKE 4.2... we were running side by side with each other and I finally got him in turn 3 ; he got me back in 4, I got him back in 5 and pulled me down the straight with that big Jag engine; I dive under in the bus stop... yes I got him.... no I missed a gear... off he goes... what a great race. Finished 20th with a best time for the weekend.... a 2:23.473, beating out Tom by 2 one thousandths of a second!!!! YAHHHHH!!!!!

What a great weekend... Now back to the shop to get ready for the 4 hour at Sebring in December. If anyone would like to join in on the fun... just let me know!!!!

Sept. 2008 PCA DE weekend at Roebling Road Raceway in Savannah, Ga.

It was a hot weekend both on and off the track. With the temperatures reaching the mid 90's and humidity through the roof, it made for a fun but challenging weekend.
There were about 75-100 cars not sold out, but a nice mix, giving a little more space in each run group. I must say that in every group, everyone seemed to be having fun!!

Friday night the Social was nice, my wife Pam and I had a little dinner with the Dube's before and still enjoyed the company at the party.

Saturday Day one, I was with Mark Popovich and his 04 911 Anniversary Car, in the green group... This was Marks second time at the track, but was not lacking any confidence, he had great lines, and we were mostly working on smoothness with the pedals and steering input... By the end of the weekend he was quick and smooth, a great weekend Mark!!! I had a few runs with DR. Dave and his 968, and Tom in his 944.. it is cool to get into a group like that and just hang it out...

It was a pleasure to walk around and see friends customers, and make new friends, overall the attitude on the whole was awesome...

A quick drive to downtown Savannah and we were at Ellen's on 37th Street with Art and Pat Dube, This was a pleasant surprise... and old mansion converted to a great restaurant, with great food, and better service...

Day two wasn't as bad at first, but when it then the heat kicked in around 10:30...wow!!! it was hot!!

After a great day of driving, laughing and drinking water, I couldn't wait to get back to the Hotel and take a shower!!!! By the way, The nicest hotel I have stayed in around the track... Great choice Guys!!!

Overall I had one of the best weekends of driving, being with friends and my wife, that I could have asked for...
This is truly an experience you should experience with the PCA Florida Crown Region!!!

Yesterday, Thursday March 13, 2008, I had the privilege to join Nort Northam and his NortSport Porsche racing team in Sebring Fl. for the SVRA 12 Hours of Sebring Vintage Enduro. The NortSport 1972 911RS with a 3.0 CSI engine Kelly Green #17, is in the FIA 5.0 class with 7 other competitors. We started 30th with a 2:36 qualifying time, 4th in class. The race started real smooth until the 20 minute mark and a full course caution. In for the 3 minute pit-stop, and off we go.... The race was shortened to 45 minutes, all 45 of then being an absolute blast. In the end the NortSport Porsche race team finished 20th overall and 2nd in class

The race it's self was a ton of fun, but to get to see the Porsche RS Spyders go around the track is amazing to say the least...The telemetries putting the car at a 1:42 and around 153mph around turn 1... WOW!!!!!!!
I also had the chance to see Darren Law of the Flying Lizard and Brumos Porsche teams, with the new Porsche RSR... wow what a car... One day.
Bob Russo was also there with the Radical team and their LMP1 Tourague powered car. Unfortunately a problem with a Bell housing didn't allow them to run this weekend, but we will look for them in the near future

I hope you all enjoy these reports, But get to the track see these cars up close and personal, you will be amazed!!!!

Just and update, the lildebbieracing 944 GT is at Brumos Porsche, getting prepped for the 2008 season... We cooked the rear breaks and rotors at Daytona, in November. New pads and rotors, along with a good going through, just like new... New Moble 1, and filters, and we should be good...A quick look under the hood and we found another slight problem.
New cap and rotor, adjust the belts and we are ready...

Well the Lildebbieracing.com race team, had a great weekend in Savannah Ga. for the VDCA Season Finale at Roebling Road Raceway. Lildebbieracing is proud to announce the addition of a new car to the pits, a 1986 Swift DB-2 Sports 2000.
The highlight of the weekend was when Tom Bungay RRDC Member and former West Coast Pro Sports 2000 Competitor drove the lildebbieracing Swift DB-2 sports racer to a Second overall and first in class last weekend. I wouldn't be racing if there wasn't a little drama. About 2/3 the way into the race Tom brought the Swift into the pits for the mandatory 5 minute pit stop, and we being HSR/SVRA competitors started the clock when he crossed the pit entry, stayed for allotted time the out at 5 minutes when exiting the pits.... Well not quite so... VDCA wants you to stop for a complete 5 minutes plus pit travel time, so we were black flagged for a stop and go plus one minute... ouch!!! Even so Tom drove brilliantly and passed for P-2 with 30 seconds to go in the race, leaving him only behind Larry Wilson in his Royal RP-17 ahead at the checkered flag.
With this Class win Tom, is the recipient of the inaugural Carson- Arundel Endurance Trophy. A Job well earned.
The Sprint race didn't go quite as well when we were punted from the track in turn 1 and ended up in the tires in lap 4. Tom was ok and the car only suffered minor damages. Pictures to be in the gallery shortly.
We look forward to next year... See you at the track!!!!

Well Daytona International Speedway lived up to it's name again. This year the lildebbieracing.com 944GT had an absolutely great weekend.
It all started with the first practice on Friday, Group 3, fresh tires, a cool nip in the air ( 48 deg.) off we went... slowly working my way around the track, checking the breaks, warming the tires, getting the blood flowing, 45 minutes later we were 35th out of 52 cars in the group and best time was a 2:23 only one second off our best time last year, not bad for the first practice.
Bring the car in and go over it every thing is great.

Day 2 we have two qualifying races one in the morning, and one in the afternoon. In session one, we ran solid
having a nice little battle with a 3.8 ltr Aston Martin DB4... what a beautiful car. We moved up to 33rd, 7th in class.
Once again the crew ( my dad it was his first time helping and did a great job) and I  go over the car, all ok, fuel it up check the tire pressures, and we are ready.
Session 2 was a little more intense because it was a real 8 lap sprint race to set the official grid for the feature race and the Enduro. Clicking off a 2:22:3 and moving up to 32, was a nice success.

Day 3 8:30 in the morning we are setting on the grid, ready for the enduro, Tom Bungay and the crew were in the pits, getting ready for the mandatory 5 minute pit stop at 28 minutes in.
We have a full field headed to the start, we go green, I got a great jump going into turn one 4 wide watch out, I moved up three spots, 28 minutes later Tom gets in with a perfect pit stop out he goes, Tom was definitley the fast one of the group this year, he turn a 2:20, two seconds faster than our fastest lap ever at Daytona. At the checkered Flag we had moved up to 15th overall and 5th in class, out of 52 starters. What a great job considering we are down 45 hp and are 400lbs heavier than those in our group...A great finish, and a great job by all Tom, Norm, Pam, Carol and myself...
After checking the car over we noticed that the exhaust had come loose at the tail pipe, no problem, tighten a few nuts, snugg it all down and off we go..
2:00 Group 3 Feature race. Again using the qualifying times for the grid we are 32nd. After 4 laps and some great racing we lost a c clip holding the gear knob and shifter together, going into turn 5 and we are out...
After a great weekend we can not be upset over a $2.00 part...

We were talking about average speeds of the car...
the track is 3.62 miles we completed 24 laps in 1 hour, so 24 x 3.62 = 86.88 miles / 1hour equals and average speed of 86.88 miles per hour during the enduro. Not bad because there was a 5 minute pit stop in there also. our fastest lap was 2:20 / 60 = .04 / 3.62 = 90.50mph.

We look forward to getting everything ready for Sebring, I look forward too seeing you there...
See the pictures in the Gallery shortly.

 Sebring Endurance Challenge
March 4 2007
Jacksonville, Fl.

The lildebbieracing.com team just finished it first race weekend of 2007. It was short, real long (3 hours), sweet and sour; read along and you will see what I mean. We left Jacksonville Fl. on Saturday night in the pouring rain, and made it to Sebring in 4 hours flat. It was nice passing all of the people going to bike week, very tempting to stop and check it out, I'm glad we didn't, the 10:00 p.m. arrival at the Kennalworth was late enough for me. We caught a quick nights sleep and up at 6:am to get to the track early for set up and tech. Registration doesn't open until 8:00 am, Race starts at 8:30. We have a bunch of stuff to do. Unload the trailer, get the car warmed up, set up the pits for the 3 hour race, get the tech inspection and decals, go to registration ( thanks Judy @ HSR), get back to the grid, load Tom in the car. Then there we were, absolutely dead last... We weren't there for qualifying, so we started a the very end of the pack P46, and 12 in V5. The pace car was off and we went to the pits, for the start of the race. The first hour went great; we moved up progressively, slowly making our way through the pack...55 minutes later Tom was in the pits, a quick check over, refuel, Bryan is in and off in 5 minutes as planned...This was Bryan's first ever enduro so we had to coach him a little, but no worries, these guys are good averaging 2:41's... By the end of hour 2 we were up to 24th and 7th in class, again a quick 5 minute pit stop, and off I go. Well let me tell you that after 2 hours of smooth racing, there was nothing left in the Kuhmo Tires... It was like driving on Black Ice!!!, About 40 minutes in and spinning 3 times, I pulled into the pits, but was sent out to finish with the shot tires... There was our break; full course yellow; someone decided to try and take out the turn 16 wall- they lost. With 3 laps to we are green again, and I just tried to stay out of the way. Then the sour note, with 1/2 a lap to go the lildebbieracing.com Porsche just died, we had gas, power, oil pressure, but nothing... It just won't start or move- nothing... I got towed in after the end of the race thinking we fell way back, but we didn't- we finished 24th overall and 7th in class... What a great weekend of racing. We moved up 22 spots and 5 in class. I'm disappointed with the failure with the car but very happy with the results... A Final thank you to Ken Fengler, and all the people at HSR for letting us come down for just one day.
Look at the gallery for some pictures from the race and the Al Holbert Memorial GTP Race.

Update Project
February 17,2007
Jacksonville, Fl.

We are updating the look of the lildebbieracing.com Porsche 944 to comply with the new rules at HSR.
HSR has made a rule change the will allow us to go from GTX Group 5 to 3K in Group 3. This will make it more competitive and safe for all involved and make the car look real cool.
We will be changing the front valance and adding the hood scoop from the 924GT. This will be a rather simple project to complete, and we will have picture in the gallery shortly.

Test and Tune weekend

First Time Back...

Well, after a minor issue with a reference sending unit the lildebbieracing Porsche 944 was flawless. This was the first time I have been back to Roebling Road Raceway in several years and the first time on the new surface. The track was absolutely perfect, the weather was even better. It started off a little on the chilly side but warmed to a beautiful 71 degrees with very few clouds in the sky.
The Florida Crown Region of the PCA put on a Drivers' Education day that went off with out a hitch. There was a great selection of cars and drivers; from rookies to veteran race car drivers. After the drivers meeting, we were off... Red Group first ( instructors) Green group to classroom. I started with race prep on the car; check tire pressures, oil levels, lug nut torque, etc...get the car warmed up and ready to go.
The first stage was wrapping up and the Black group on the grid... then ohhhhh nooo the dreaded red flag... There was a Mini Cooper that had a wheel fall off on pit road... ouch, but we can't go... uuuggghhh. Ok we wait and wait, 10 minutes later we are all clear, off we go...
Session one was cut short, but that was ok it was a feel-it-out session anyway; let the track warm up and come back in... just a tease.
After the session; a double check-over and there it was... one of the bolts for the reference sending unit backed out and disappeared. Time to scramble. Well the guys in the Discovery Parts truck were there to save the day. A quick fix, and we were ready for the next session.
After what seemed to be an eternity, 1 1/2 hours, we are green again, this time with a full session. The group was smooth, some not as fast as others but that is what this is all about, learning your car, your limits and ability... 30 minutes later and a huge smile the lildebbieracing Porsche 944 and it's owner we back in the pits talking about the track, the run, and all the fun...
Second lifesaver of the weekend; My wife, Pam. We all know that track days are fun for the participants but for the spouses not quite so.. After getting some great pictures and lunch, we hooked up with Brumos Porsche customer Art and Pat  Dube. Art was in green group, Pat was patiently waiting in the snack shed reading when the girls decided to go shopping...
Well, 4 hours and three run groups later, we all meet back up at the hotel for a drink and dinner in downtown Savannah. Everyone was happy...
Day Two... After a great nights sleep, the nip in the fresh air and blue skies meant another fun day at the track.
The drivers' meeting went smoothly and quickly, a few new additions for the Sunday DE and a few that went home early meant more track time... yahhhhooooooo. Well three flawless sessions later we were loaded up and heading home...
Overall it was a great weekend put on by the Florida Crown Region PCA, and with little or no incidents that I can recall, I'm glad I went back.

November 13 2006: Jacksonville, Fl.

lildebbieracing has just finished a fun and successful weekend at Daytona International Speedway.

Through out the weekend there were a total of 44 cars slated to start the races in our group, Group 5 Classic GT. As the weekend progressed, with minor incidents, and mechanical problems, the field dwindled in size. However the lildebbierracing Porsche 944 raced hard, finished better than expected, and was without problems all weekend long.

With a 1st place in class and 15th overall, out of 21 starters, in the 1 hour enduro with Tom Bungay as co-driver, the team had it's fastest time of the weekend and ever at Daytona with a 2:23:256, we are still waiting to see who actually posted the time. That is 4 seconds faster than the previous time here.

In the sprint race we finished 2nd in class and 23 overall, out of 26 starters. Our best time of the sprint race was a 2:24:074.

We would like to thank everyone that stopped by to support us and talk, I would especially like to thank Ken Fangler of HSR for changing us to the safer Group 5, it made the weekend that much better, and everyone else at HSR, that made the weekend happen. I would also like to thank our crew and direct support of Pam Goyette, Bob Atkins, and Patti Tantillo.

I would also like to congratulate Harris Snodgrass for a successful debut at Daytona, with The Brumos Porsche Race team. Harris turned his fastest time of the weekend, a 2:10;00 in qualifying. Great job Harris...

I hope to be posting next years schedule shortly, and I look forward to seeing you at the track...
